CLEVER launches first wave of Use Case coaching activities

Following the selection of the CLEVER Use Cases through the project’s Open Call, CLEVER has now moved into the next phase of its Use Case activities, supporting the validation and practical application of the project’s emission factor methodology.

In May 2026, CLEVER achieved Milestone M10: UC Applications for Validation of the CLEVER Framework Selected. This marks an important step in the project’s work to test and apply harmonised emission factor methodologies across real-world transport and logistics scenarios.

As part of this next phase, a kick-off call was held with most of the selected participants, and the first wave of use case coaching activities has now started, involving seven participants from the selected Use Cases.

The first wave of Use Cases has a more qualitative focus. Activities are looking at the comparison of emission factor calculation methodologies and certification schemes, alongside company use cases exploring the practical application of the CLEVER emission factors.

At this stage, the work focuses on defining the scope of the use cases, including system boundaries, fuels to be considered, and the availability of relevant data. These activities will help inform how CLEVER emission factors can be applied across different industries and operational contexts.

Through the coaching process, selected organisations will collaborate with experts in emissions accounting, pilot and evaluate the CLEVER emission factors and methodology, and contribute to improving the practical understanding of harmonised emissions accounting approaches in transport and logistics.

Initial learnings and insights from the first wave of Use Cases are expected in late 2026.
